At the end

~~
At the same end I'd like to encourage everyone to visit this place. It's really worth to be seen. I think there are no many places like that in the whole world. Everything you see when you travel across the world it's beautiful - and this is quite different. I can't say it's beautiful, but it's fascinating. And those trees! They just have to be seen.

And of course those trees are not the only one interesting place on the island. About more great and emblematic areas you can read on this site: http://myelhierro.com.

How to get to El Sabinar

~~
First you have to get to this little island of El Hierro. You can do that by a plane or by a ferry. I think the best way is from the island of Tenerife.

Once you get to El Hierro you have to take a car and go to the west side of the island - no matter if you choose the way from the north or from the south of the island - surely in a maximum an hour you get a place called Ermita Virgen de los Reyes. You must follow it, and turn just after the chapel. After few kilometres you get El Sabinar. You surely won't miss it. It's very characteristic place.

Types of Junipers on El Hierro

~~
On the island of El Hierro are three types of these old juniper trees, and each of the type are located in a different part of the island. So it is:

  • wetlands juniper trees - this is the ancient forest and it's located in the south-eastern part of the island, in the El Golfo valley, between Los Llanillos and Sabinosa. It has about 700 metres.

  • dry junipers of El Julan - the youngest juniper tree forest, the junipers are mixed with the famous canarias pine trees.

  • dry juniper forest of La Dehesa, that is our El Sabinar - this is the oldest and the densest forest of wild juniper trees. It covers about 30 ha area. It's very attractive because of unusual shapes of the trees and fascinating landscape.

What's the most fascinating?

~~
On the plateau of La Dehesa are plenty of trees like those. They're old, even over hundred years old, incredibly twisted, they have very strange shapes. And whole this place looks like it was after a battle.

It's very difficult to describe it well, but I can assure everyone: when you see it you will be completely delighted!
